Trends in Sustainable Floor Paints -Water-based, Hard Urethane Paints-

As introduced in the previous column “Sustainable Floor Paints for Every Need,” floor paints are required to have various functions. They are used under diverse conditions, so there are different types and application systems for each requirement.

Under such circumstances, water-based hard urethane is currently the trend for floor paints.

Water-based hard urethane is a tough floor paint that can withstand harsh environments in factories, warehouses, food processing factories, kitchens, etc. with heat resistance, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. At the same time, water-based paints meet the needs of the times such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and environmentally conscious initiatives.

We would like to introduce SK SPECIAL FLOOR Series as recommended products.

SK SPECIAL FLOOR Series / HACCP-compliant Water-based Thick-type Sustainable Floor Paint

SK SPECIAL FLOOR Series is a water-based thick-type sustainable floor paint with HACCP compliance, excellent hot water resistance, hot oil resistance, and impact resistance. It is classified as a water-based hard urethane type. With low odour, it is suitable for a wide range of purposes, including new construction and renovation of food factories, kitchens, chemical factories, logistics warehouses, etc.

Features

  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Compliance

It complies with HACCP. We support the implementation of HACCP in food processing factories, supermarkets, restaurants, etc.

  • Hot Water Resistance

With the excellent heat resistance, it is suitable for food factories and kitchens that use hot water.

Ultra-high temperature and high-pressure steam resistance test

Result

SK SPECIAL FLOOR
No damage observed after 10 cycles.

Solvent-free epoxy resin floor paint
Discoloured after 1 cycle and blistered after 3 cycles.

  • Hot Oil Resistance

With the excellent durability against high-temperature oils, foods, etc., it is also ideal for chemical factories, food factories, etc.

  • Impact Resistance

It provides excellent toughness and impact resistance.

Impact resistance test

Test Method

Drop 1kg steel ball from the height of 1m on the specimen.
Then, check the surface of the specimen.

Result

SK SPECIAL FLOOR
No damage observed after 100 times.

Solvent-free epoxy resin floor paint
Pain film surface damaged after 3 times.

  • It prevents the growth of microorganism such as bacteria, mould and mildew. It maintains a hygienic environment.
  • Due to its low odour, it can be used safely in food factories, kitchens, etc.
  • It has strong resistance to various chemicals, detergents, etc.

Chemical resistance

Uses

Heat-resistant and durable floors required for food factories, kitchens, logistics warehouses, beverage factories, chemical factories, etc.

Did You Know? – HACCP to Protect Astronauts

HACCP is a hygiene management system to ensure food safety at each stage from the receipt of raw materials to manufacturing and shipping. It was introduced by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, a joint organization of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Its adoption is recommended to all countries around the world.

HACCP, which currently protects the safety of our food, was originally created as a means to “ensure the safety of space food.” When the United States began the Apollo program in the 1960s, space food that was nearly 100% safe had not yet been developed. However, the food for astronauts, who spend their time isolated from the outside world, requires a high level of safety. Therefore, NASA and researchers developed HACCP to ensure safety.

We aim to contribute to a sustainable future by helping to protect food safety from the field of paints.

Summary: Trends in Sustainable Floor Paints –Water-based, Hard Urethane Paints

For floor paints, various functions are required and they are used under diverse conditions. So there are different types and application systems for each requirement. Under such circumstances, water-based hard urethane is currently the trend for floor paints. “SK SPECIAL FLOOR” that we introduced has excellent resistance to hot water, hot oil and impact, and is also HACCP compliant. It is a sustainable floor paint that meets the needs of the times.
